Welcome to my new website and blog, Counselling in West Cork. I was advised by a dear friend who said “Alve get with it,how will clients know you are counselling in west Cork if you don’t let them know you are there”.So here I am,now you know I’m here!
I’ve been practicing part-time as a professional counsellor/psychotherapist since 2011. This year life presented me with the opportunity to practice full time and I am delighted to be able to see clients in Timoleague which is near Clonakilty and Bandon .
So what exactly do I do.
As your counsellor when you come to see me I will do a initial assessment, which is really a chance for me to get to know you and some of the issues that are affecting you, and also to find out what you want from counselling/psychotherapy. It is also an opportunity for you to see if I am the person you want to work with. This is an essential,as you need to have some sense that we can work well together and to feel safe and comfortable in my company.
You can come and see me if you are feeling anxious or depressed, having a sense of worthlessness.Sometimes a serious illness or accident can impact on us more than we ever imagined, effecting our self esteem and relationships. Also if you have been abused as a child or as a adult.
Or maybe you have experienced a loss through separation or death. The grieving process takes time, but we can also get stuck, you may find you are unable to move forward with your life, unexpectedly becoming overwhelmed by memories and emotions. Talking really is the balm for anyone who is grieving. To be able to release some of your pain allows for healing to happen.
There is one last thing I will finish with.
Many of us live our lives through our past experiences, how we should and should not do or think or be. Maybe you have self imposed rules and expectations of yourself and they are not serving you too well in your present life. Maybe there are patterns that keep repeating themselves in your relationships at home at work and socially.
Maybe its time to grasp the nettle and make that change.
